I just glanced up at the clock and it's just past 1:30 on Wednesday afternoon. Time has flown by and I haven't had lunch yet because I'm still trying to finish this morning's green smoothie. For those of you with a blender, you know how filling a green smoothie is. The reason for this is because of all the nutrients you are getting. It's true that when your body has the nutrition it needs you just don't get that "hunger pang" like you do when you eat foods devoid of nutrition.
When I was making my smoothie this morning I was a bit surprised to find that my husband Darren, probably in his haste, didn't buy organic berries. Instead of fussing about it I decided that it would be ok and to go with it anyway. The fruits that I chose are low on the "pesticide scale" and I decided to make an exception today. I really prefer organics, but every once in a while it's just not practical.
Here's what I had in my smoothie today:
- The water and flesh of a young thai coconut
- 1 inch wedge of freshly cut pineapple, the full round
- 1/4 cup blueberries (really a small handful, about 20?)
- 1/4 cup raspberries (this was about 6 or 7)
- 7 large strawberries (greens cut off)
- 3 large leaves of collard greens, stems removed end cut in strips
So, I put all of this in a blender, adding them in the order listed. This created a full 16 ounces of juice. I started drinking at about 10:30, and finally am nearing the final drops! Delicious, nutritious, and surely worth it.
